Here’s Why Weber Rules Every ‘Best Grill’ List – Including Ours

After decades of testing grills at CNET, one thing hasn’t changed: Weber earns the top spot on our list every year. That reputation is well-deserved — and our results always prove it. This year, prices are average Weber Spirit E-325 lead our gas and grill best rates. Of the more than 30 models tested, it delivers the best combination of performance, solid warranty and overall value. Similarly, the always-reliable Weber Q1200 holds its own as CNET’s portable grill.

This is not a foreign year. Recommending Weber grills may sound old hat, but we have plenty of reasons and plenty of data to back them up.

Performance is only part of the story. Weber grills are built to last, and the models we’ve tested over many seasons often outlast the competition. Small details stand out, too: burners that don’t stop, burners that respond predictably, and utilities designed for use.

And you don’t have to pay a single premium — at least not compared to the others we reviewed. Other brands offer some of Weber’s signature features, but none we tested managed to stack them up at an affordable price. The Broil King comes close in terms of features, but most of its lineup starts around $600 and goes uphill from there.

Here’s what makes Webers different and why they continue to earn CNET’s stamp of approval year after year.

1. Aluminum cooking box

Weber’s cast-aluminum cookware retains heat better and resists corrosion better than porcelain-enameled steel.

One of Weber’s most important engineering advantages is its cast-aluminum cooking box. The material checks a rare combination of boxes: it retains heat well, resists rust, and is light enough to keep the grill under control – a practical choice that also happens to last a long time. Budget products tend to cut corners here, relying on porcelain-enameled or thin stainless steel that is more susceptible to rust and deterioration over time.

Weber’s commitment to durability extends beyond the materials themselves. According to Roberto Carvajal, vice president of product development, Weber puts its grills through rigorous testing — including salt spray, impact, abrasion, chemical and weather testing — to ensure long-term performance rather than high quality.

Another key option at the end of the market is heavy-duty 304-grade stainless steel, which is favored by high-end and commercial grill makers for its heat retention and durability. It’s a skillful job, but it comes at a steep price — many backyard chefs won’t have to pay.

2. High efficiency burners

When you walk through a group of grills, the performance of the burners is one of the first things we notice — specifically, how quickly the burners respond to dial adjustments, how evenly they hold the temperature, and how well they stay lit during cooking.

Other brands chase BTU numbers for the title, but Weber takes a different approach. According to Carvajal, the focus is on consistency and control rather than raw output. The result is a heat system designed for precision — giving you repeatable, reliable heat time after session, not just an impressive specification out of the box.

  • PureBlu’s proprietary PureBlu design, found on Genesis and Summit gas grills, allows gas and air to mix for clean burning and high energy transfer to the cooktop.
  • Weber gas grills use long, multi-port heating tubes along their entire length, from front to back, ensuring maximum heat coverage for even, consistent results.
  • Precision valve control that allows for a linear, more controlled temperature curve rather than a “low/medium/high jump” when you turn the knobs on the grill.
  • Reliable heat that lights the burners quickly; the system incorporates a crossover and burner design for consistent flame stability even in real-world conditions.

3. Keeping warm

We attached temperature probes to many grills. Weber’s heat distribution and maintenance is always among the best.

To test performance, we install temperature probes into each grill we test to measure how well each one distributes, stores, and returns heat. Weber grills consistently outperform others in their price category on all three metrics. The difference isn’t just that they heat up — it’s that they maintain a stable temperature, which translates into faster recovery times and consistent results on the grate. Carvajal points to several key factors behind that performance.

  • Careful engineering for even heat distribution throughout the grate;
  • A balanced heating system with a carefully tuned combination of conductive heat (grates), radiant heat (Flavorizer Bars) and dynamic heat (airflow design).
  • A closed lid design made famous by inventor George Stephen Sr., who brought closed lid cooking to the grill and circular air flow for even results.
  • Thermal mass and component design: Weber’s signature Flavorizer bars and simulation elements help retain and redistribute heat, aiding recovery after lid opening; porcelain-enameled cast iron grates retain heat for better combustion and stability.

4. Total amount

Weber grills, including large and premium models, offer a clear value over their competitors.

For all that engineering, Weber managed to keep prices low. Having tested a number of ultra-premium grills, I can say with confidence that most don’t offer meaningfully more than the $500 Spirit — at least not when it counts.

Some critics have noted that Weber moved most of its production to China around 2017. Previously, most grills were made in the US. From our perspective, that change has not yet produced a noticeable drop in quality.

When I asked Carvajal how the Weber delivers this level of performance without a luxury price tag, he returned to the brand’s focus on focus.

“Weber prioritizes performance and longevity over certain features,” he said. “This means we focus on what consumers care about most. Our research shows that consumers desire even heat distribution, early heat, durability and temperature control. We offer long-term ownership value with durable materials, replacement parts and useful warranties that help extend the life cycle of our grills — for better cost per use over time.”

5. Accessories for Weber’s ecosystem

Like its grills, Weber tools and accessories are always thoughtfully designed, soundly built and rarely attractive.

“We’re always thinking about how we can make every experience 5% better,” explained Carvajal. “Many of the design ideas come from our grilling experience, and customer research. The Weber accessory strategy is successful because it is functional, integrated, and focused on cooking, based on the real pain points of the consumer. They improve, not complicate, the grilling experience.

weber griddle

Weber released the Slate-top flat griddle series in 2024. It quickly became one of our favorites.

Some of Weber’s biggest product success stories include:

  • Weber Crafted Outdoor Kitchen Collection (2022): This cooking system was designed to bring flexibility to outdoor cooking, with a frame that allows cooks to easily dispose of grillware accessories (grillware insert, pizza stone, wok, grill grate, grill basket, etc.).
  • Grid installation (2024): Weber introduced the Weber Crafted griddle in 2022 and introduced the next generation of the non-stick griddle platform in 2024 alongside the debut of the Slate griddle series. Cooking with a griddle was becoming more and more popular, so they gave consumers more choice by offering a standing, stand-alone griddle (Slide) or inserts made of the same material to make almost any Weber grill.
  • Weber Works Access and Quick Access Tools (2024): Weber introduced the Weber Works versatile appliance system in 2024, starting with the Slate griddle system and later expanding compatibility with all Weber grill platforms, including Genesis and Spirit gas grills, as well as the updated Performer charcoal grills. This modular appliance system transforms a side shelf and preparation area for accompanying grills and griddles into a customizable outdoor work area.
  • Weber Connect smart grilling (2020): Weber is introducing the Weber Connect Smart Grilling Hub at CES 2020, bringing app-connected smart grilling technology and guided cooking assistance to almost any grill. The system provides the means to easily monitor food and/or grill temperatures and cooking times for consistently delicious results.

6. Some of the best guarantees

Solid performance and durability are only part of the value proposition — Weber also backs its grills with some of the best warranties in the business. Key components on its popular models are covered for 10 years, a level of protection unusual for Weber’s price points.

The Broil King offers similar coverage on select models, but is generally reserved for its higher-end trims. Napoleon is one manufacturer that consistently matches Weber in this regard, with a 10-year warranty on its entire range and lifetime coverage on major components of its high-end grills.
