‘Last One Laughing UK’ Season 2 review: If you’re not watching, you’re missing out

It’s rare that jokes actually make you laugh out loud, though The Last Laugh UK – despite being a show that revolves around people not laughing — easy handling.

Back on Prime Video for a second season with new characters, the Jimmy Carr-hosted game show/reality TV challenge sees 10 comedians locked in a room together for six hours.

Only the law? If you laugh twice, you’re out. The last person standing wins.

What The Last Laugh UK about?

The rules may be straightforward, but there are many twists and turns.

The comedians – Season 2 includes David Mitchell, Mel Giedroyc, Alan Carr, Romesh Ranganathan, Amy Gledhill, Maisie Adam, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Sam Campbell, Diane Morgan, and Bob Mortimer – spend six hours together on a large set with a kitchen, living room and stage. However, they are not just left to their own devices. Watching from the control room, Carr and host Roisin Conaty can choose to call and ask any cast member to play their “joker” card at any time. This is actually a small stand-up set, where the cast member in question takes to the stage to perform a short (and often very awkward) routine while the others are forced to huddle on the sofas and watch.

Look, here’s Diane Morgan giving a deadpan reading of Dylan Thomas’ “Don’t Go Softly Into That Good Night”:

Jokes aside, the show is full of other mini-tasks, challenges, and surprises along the way. The result feels like a fast-paced variety show where everyone involved is teetering on the edge of hysterics.

The Last Laugh UK is one of the Project manager followers

If you’ve seen the show Project manageryou are about to have a flavor The Last Laugh UK it’s about.

The challenges set for the contestants aren’t as dramatic as those on Alex Horne’s show, but they have the same silly and surreal flavor. Season 2 sees Bob Mortimer take on David Mitchell, Maisie Adam confront Romesh Ranganathan over their bitter regrets, and Sam Campbell and David Mitchell shouting as long as they can while slowly walking towards each other.

The fact that no one is allowed to laugh infuses each moment with a kind of frantic energy. There’s a constant, giggling tension that rises each time the camera cuts to a person doing their best to hold back a snort.

The Last Laugh UK Season 2 has some unexpected genius guests

Season 1 featured great acting with Danny Dyer, presenter Alison Hammond coming out of the fridge, and learning about magic from Ted Lasso actor and comedian Nick Mohammed. A tough list to hit, in other words, but Season 2 is already well under way.

In the clip below the famous British presenter Richard Madeley appears, calling the actors on stage one by one with deadpan interview questions that are very difficult to sit without breaking.

Bad news? The Last Laugh UK Season 2 is only six 30-minute episodes, each of which moves very quickly. The good news? Five episodes have been released so far and the finale drops on Thursday, so there’s plenty of time to enjoy yourself before the winner of Season 2 is crowned.

The Last Laugh UK Season 2 is streaming now on Prime Video, and the final episode will drop on Thursday.
