Note: For enterprise-class enterprises, Semrush Enterprise AIO offers all the following capabilities with higher limits and additional support.
1. Organic Rankings: See where AI Overview stacks up against your SEO rankings
The Organic Rankings tool shows how often the AI Overview appears for all the keywords you’ve already ranked for.
This can help you understand how your visibility is affected.
You can follow:
- Keywords with AI Overviews where your domain reaches AIO itself. These are your wins.
- Keywords have an overview of AI when your domain is not up to par in AIO. These are your posts.
For any pages that rank as a general search result but not in the AI Overview, look at the sources cited to understand how they answer the question. Then optimize your content to better address that goal.
Tip: Click “KD” > “Easy,” then select “SERP Features,” hover over “Domain Unbalanced,” and click “AI Overview” to find competitive keywords for which you have already ranked but are not yet ranked. These are solid opportunities to get visibility on AI Overview with targeted reviews.

2. Position Tracking: Track your daily presence in AI Overview to get a custom set of keywords
The Position Tracking Tool shows how often AI Overview appears for a custom set of target keywords and whether your domain is included.
Unlike Organic Rankings, it is based on the keyword you define. You can collect keywords by priority and monitor changes with daily updates.
This allows you to track the keywords and topics that are most important to your business (even if you haven’t measured for them yet) and see how AI Overview affects those results over time.
Once tracking is set up, you can measure:
- Assignment of your guided questions that trigger AI Overview
- How often your site is cited in those results (share of voice or visibility %)
- How do these metrics change over time?

Tracking both how often AI Overview appears, and how often your site is cited within it helps you see how your strategy is helping you gain AI visibility.
The number of keywords you can track in Site Tracking depends on your Semrush subscription level. And with Semrush One, you can track ChatGPT’s visibility closely with AI Overview and regular Google rankings.
3. Overview: Understand your brand’s AI coverage across various topics
The Visibility Overview Report gives you a topic-level summary of your brand’s presence in the AI Overview.
Click on “All AI platforms” at the bottom of the report and change it to “An overview of AI.” Now the Visibility Overview report shows your:
- Appearance of AI: A score between 0 and 100 indicates how often your product appears on AIOs and how consistently it appears compared to competitors in your niche
- Say: Number of notifications that return AI Overview responses that mention your product
- Quotes: Number of AI Overviews that cite your domain as a source
- Pages Cited: The total number of pages on your site that are cited in AI Overview

And the table below allows you to identify specific commands and topics where your product already appears. And when it isn’t.

Use the tabs at the top of the table to switch between views:
- Your Topics to Do shows when your brand is already included in the AI Overview. Use this view to see the patterns behind your current installation.
- Title Opportunities it shows where your competitor is mentioned but your brand is not. These are topics that should be covered.
- Pages Cited shows which URLs your AI Overview cites. Use this view to identify patterns in pages that are perceived as format, layout, and how information is presented.
4. Competitive Research: Benchmark your competitors’ brands in AI Overview
The Competitor Research Report allows you to compare your product’s presence in AI Overview directly with four competitors.
Just set the filter at the top of the report to “An overview of AI” and click “Say” tab to see how your talk compares to what competitors are saying.

The Competitive Research Report also allows you to identify topics where your visibility is significantly weaker than the competition.
You can even see the titles and commands driving your opponents AI mentioned to open up competitive slots.

Start closing these gaps by creating strong content on those topics, increasing your presence across all third-party sources, and organizing your pages to make it easier for AI platforms to extract and cite them.
5. Quick Research: Find out what popular questions and topics your audience is seeing AI Overview
The Agile Research Tool helps you understand what your audience is asking for AI tools and where you have opportunities to appear.
Enter a broad title related to your product (eg, “project management”) and select “An overview of AI” to see the volume of information and how those questions are grouped on related topics.

From there, you can explore topics to see specific questions users are asking and how AI Overview is answering.

It also allows you to rate the top mentioned brands and cited sources for any topic.
Use this report to:
- Identify the most needed topics and instructions to target
- Understand how the AI Overviews structure answers those questions
- See the top brands and sources mentioned and cited by AIOs on a specific topic
6. Semrush Sensor: Monitor industry-wide AI dynamics
Semrush Sensor shows how often SERP features like AI Overview appear across queries and industries, helping you understand how search results are changing.
At a high level, the SERP volatility score shows how much the rankings change over time.

You can also track the share of results including the AI Overview in the top 20 results and how that percentage is changing, indicating whether it is increasing or decreasing in your category.

Use this data to hear-evaluate what’s going on in your practice.
If AI Overview is increasing across your industry and your traffic or CTR is decreasing, your site’s performance may be driven by industry-wide changes in the SERP.
But if your traffic is decreasing while the AI Overview in your industry is stable or declining, it may be pointing to something else. Like increased competition or outdated content.
Use this tool to monitor your industry’s AI Overview and understand whether any traffic drops are driven by broader trends or issues specific to your site.
