Spring is a season of growth, renewal, and new beginnings. Just as flowers bloom after winter, our personal and artistic desires can flourish when we give them the attention they deserve.
The energy of Spring naturally draws us into action, making it the perfect season to reflect on your dreams and take steps to care for them. Here are the six birth months whose personalities enable them to expand their goals and passions this spring. Read on, and see if you can spot yourself in these descriptions.
May
You are expanding your dreams this spring, by overcoming the barrier to entry. If you want to learn to play the guitar, you should buy or rent one. If you’ve always dreamed of going to Paris, you should book a ticket. If you wanted to make a career change, you should acquire new skills by signing up for that training, that class, that program. Whatever it is you have to take that first step, make that first investment, whether it’s time or money it doesn’t matter. Spend thirty dollars or thirty minutes, but do something. It will be hard, don’t get me wrong, to keep doing something, once you start, but sometimes that first hurdle is the hardest to overcome. Spring is that magical time when everything feels alive, the weather improves our mood, and an ice-cold margarita is all it takes to calm your senses enough to make today the day you say, “I will.”
August
You are growing your dreams, by returning to them this spring. Plans you left unfinished, plans you stopped because life got in the way, opportunities that didn’t work out at first but may now be available. Being late doesn’t make you a failure, it makes you human. No matter how motivated or dedicated you are, external factors get in the way. Patience is not about getting it right the first time you try. It’s about the valleys that come after our peaks, and the drive we have to find our way back to another route, to push against gravity to the heights. So if you have to watch Anna Karenina for the fifth time, or go back to the gym, or if you have to dust off the old exercise equipment, or pull out a recipe you’ve always made but have forgotten, that’s okay. Deviations enrich our lives by exposing us to things we didn’t plan for, but we can always find our way back to our path and pick up where we left off.
January
You expand your dreams, by finding adults who share the things you wanted as a child. Maybe you were a huge Britney fan growing up and always dreamed of being a singer. As an adult, it’s time to finally learn to write a song. You’ve probably watched The Parent Trap on VHS so many times that the tape wears out. As a senior, it’s time to sign up for that fencing class you’ve always wanted to take, or plan to stay at a senior spring camp. Whatever it is that is used to keep you awake in your bed at night, hoping and wishing for your dream life, you should not write it off as impossible. You shouldn’t let those dreams die. They can grow with you. You can find a nugget, a source of joy, and find out where you can reach out to your community and hold it. Now is the time when you have the means and the means to do that.
March
You are growing your dreams this spring, by being faithful to what they are in the first place. He knows everyone’s dreams, he is good at reading the room. You know what the “normal” path is for people your age, what your normal peers aspire to, but somehow deep down, you know that doesn’t align with your big dreams. The things you want, the things you regret never giving yourself a shot in life, are rare, and for whatever reason, you’ve been afraid to be honest about them. Maybe you think that people will judge you, they will think that you want too much, that you want too much, and they will look down on you by thinking that normal is not enough for you. Flip those people the bird (I know your sweet March of love soul can’t, but I still want you to). No one can live your life without you. No one can say that your life is fulfilling or inspiring or happy except you. You get to say when you’re lonely when you need a change. You are the one who can see your north star in the sky. Stop pretending your vision is blocked. Everything is clear.
