Jake Becraft He is the CEO and Founder of Strand Therapeutics, a company that is building one of the most advanced platforms for gene editing in biotechnology. Under his leadership, Strand is redefining what RNA medicine can do by enabling selective targeting of cells and delivery of therapeutic payloads inside the body, opening a new class of precision gene therapies. He guided the company from its founding vision through platform development and clinical translation, positioning Strand at the forefront of the next generation of RNA therapeutics.
Beyond his role at the Strand, Dr. Becraft is a nationally influential voice in the biotechnology landscape. He engages and advises policymakers, defense leaders, and industry stakeholders on biosecurity, strategic innovation, and strengthening America’s competitiveness in advanced biotechnology. Trained as a synthetic biologist at MIT, he works at the intersection of science, business, and policy, focusing on building both the corporate and institutional structures needed to secure the future of programmable medicine.
He received his Ph.D. in Biological Engineering and Synthetic Biology from MIT. He serves on the board of the Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO) and the Massachusetts Biotechnology Council (MassBio).
