Amazon Expands Healthcare’s Access to AI for Virtual Healthcare

Amazon is expanding its reach virtual assistant for health care, Health AIthe company said on Tuesday. This feature was initially only available One Medical members, but will now be available to more customers on the Amazon app and website. It will be launched in the next few weeks, with the aim of making it available to all US Amazon customers.
Amazon’s Health AI can answer common healthcare questions and provide health guidance to people based on their health history, medications and medical conditions. For a more personalized answer, you can provide access to your medical records.
Other tasks that Health AI can help with include refilling a prescription through Amazon Pharmacy and connecting you with one-on-one doctors via video, in-person appointments or messaging.
An Amazon spokesperson tells CNET, “We conduct continuous testing and automated testing to monitor the quality and safety of responses, and we continue to improve the program based on the findings of clinical reviews.”
Health AI is not the first a chatbot to provide health guidance. In January, OpenAI was launched ChatGPT Lifethat answers health questions in the same way, interprets lab results and connects to your Apple Health app and medical records with your permission. Anthropic similarly introduced Claude for Healthcare, which connects to Apple Health and can help you understand and plan for healthcare activities such as medical bills. an apple there are also rumors that he is working alone as an AI health coach or assistant.
(Disclosure: Ziff Davis, CNET’s parent company, in 2025 filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, alleging that it infringed Ziff Davis’ copyrights in training and using its AI programs.)
There have been concerns about chatbots and their use in sensitive topics such as health advice, because going astray can cause harm. We always caution against submitting private, sensitive information to AI bots and take their advice with a grain of salt, as AI is known please. Double check with your provider about any health advice the AI chatbot gives you.
Amazon’s virtual assistant is said to be HIPAA compliant and intended only for medical support, not to replace a healthcare provider. Health AI will be able to answer questions like: “Can you explain my latest cholesterol results and what they mean for me?” or “Which allergy medications are safe with my current prescription?”
Health AI was developed in collaboration with the leadership of One Medical Clinic. An Amazon spokesperson says all of their services, including Health AI, go through rigorous security checks, and that strong administrative, physical, and technical safeguards are maintained to protect systems and customer information, such as encryption technology and strict controls over who can access your records.
“Prior to launch, we tested Health AI’s performance on thousands of artificially generated conversations covering quality dimensions including clinical safety, emergency response, and compliance,” the spokesperson said.
To come up with information that Health AI can answer, Amazon tested thousands of additional conditions including common conditions and high-risk presentations using rubrics created and rated by One Medical providers.
Amazon says Health AI will direct you to a human provider if it’s unsure of any clinical recommendations. If you need specialized treatment, Health AI allows you to connect with both the provider and the specialist.
Amazon Prime members interested in using Health AI will be eligible for a free introduction that allows you to connect with a One Medical provider for five free direct messaging care consultations. These services can be shared with family members if you have Amazon Family and Prime for Young Adults or Prime Access.
If you use Health AI beyond the first five visits, it costs $29 per telehealth session. If you plan to use more than that, you can purchase a One Medical membership for $99 per year. You can add up to five family members for $66 each year.
