Verizon introduced a new loyalty program to prevent subscribers from jumping ship to another carrier. Verizon Shine — say it out loud early morning — includes weekly discounts from partner companies, a new Verizon Dollars credit program and chances to win big-ticket items like breakfast with soccer legend David Beckham at the World Cup finals.
Verizon Shine is now available to all Verizon’s postpaid subscribers unlimited plans. Customers can log into the program in the My Verizon app on their app phones.
Mondays will bring daily drops of deals and products, like free coffee from Starbucks and 2026 FIFA World Cup merchandise. Verizon says other examples of discounts include concert and sporting event tickets, dining vouchers, and gift cards. This sounds remarkably similar to T-Mobile’s weekly Tuesday awards that rival carrier Verizon used to win subscribers, especially in its early years.
“What we’re looking to do is break some of the industry-wide norms and put the customer first,” said Nancy Clark, Verizon’s chief product and finance officer.
One of those practices is charging activation and upgrade fees when you add or upgrade lines. For people in the loyalty program, Verizon will stop those changes, including connected device plans. The company currently charges $40 for activation.
Verizon Dollars
The loyalty program also introduces Verizon Dollars, which are collected each month at the rate of 3% of your payment (excluding taxes and fees). Subscribers will have access to Verizon Dollars starting in July.
Those loyalty funds can be used to purchase items from partners like Sephora, Roblox, Hilton, Marriott and Starbucks. Clark said the program was launched with about 40 partners and will grow in the future.
You can’t use Verizon Dollars to lower your bill, but you can use them to buy accessories through Verizon, like phone cases or to put toward a new phone or other device. Dollars can be deposited in the bank for 12 months.
Although Verizon operates physical stores, Verizon Shine benefits won’t include finding your nearest location for merchandise. If you use a virtual item, it will be sent to you.
Clark also noted that Verizon Dollars are not one-to-one transfers. For example, one Verizon Dollar can get five times the value at a partner like a hotel.
Breakfast like (and with) Beckham
In addition to daily drops, each Monday will bring a chance to win a great experience. For example, on June 22nd, some lucky Verizon customers will get to have breakfast with David Beckham (soccer player and Verizon ambassador) as part of a three-day trip to see the World Cup final on July 19th.
Other high-ticket events include a New York City food tour with chef Andrew Zimmern, a meet-and-greet with singer Young Miko, a holiday dance lesson with the Rockets at Radio City Music Hall, and trips to watch NFL games — the other football — in France and Australia.
